Air Monitoring Course - CANCELLED
Course Objectives: This 4-hour course covers the history and purpose of air monitoring, properties of hazardous materials, toxicity of hazardous materials, detecting toxic gases, combustible gas indicators, oxygen meter operations, use of colorimetric tubes, and laboratory instruments. Classroom-based exercises will be conducted using instruments and techniques learned. Students are encouraged to bring an air monitor to class from their own fire company so they become more acclimated to the use of their specific air monitoring equipment.
Emergency On-Scene Euthanasia of Animals
Course Objectives: When animals are injured in vehicle or other accidents, the scene of the emergency is usually visible to the public. It is sometimes necessary to euthanize injured animals to prevent additional suffering and secure the scene. Police officers are often criticized by the news media and general public for ineffective euthanasia techniques. This course is designed to teach law enforcement officers to properly and humanely use firearms to perform emergency euthanasia for injured animals. Participants will learn to identify when euthanasia is necessary, and the physical signs that indicate when an animal has expired. Instruction will include the proper placement of projectiles and safety considerations for close proximity use of firearms on standing and recumbent animals. Target Audience: The target audience for this course is law enforcement officers who may attend the scene of an accident or emergency involving injured animals.
Emergency Boat Operation and Rescue
Advanced Line Systems Rescue

Rescue Team/Active Shooter Class
This course teaches the Rescue Team Task Force concept, which is a major change in doctrine for EMS providers to Active Shooter situations. The rescue team task force brings trained day to day EMS providers and partners them with law enforcement on scene to rapidly enter secured areas of an active shooter incident, to provide triage, emergent care and patient extrication to a casualty collection point. This course is designed to bring EMS together with law enforcement to collaboratively train as a rescue team task force. It will include classroom instruction and fast-paced exercises. EMS training will include: performing a quick initial medical assessment and immediate lifesaving interventions in a chaotic and stressful environment, rapid patient movement, introduction to ballistic vests, moving and communicating with law enforcement in various formations. Law enforcement training will focus on the establishment of secured areas and the escorting and protection of EMS personnel.
Introduction to Farm Emergencies
The first module is designed to give participants an overview of local farm emergencies. It will involve discussion and demonstrations of farm machinery, structures, chemicals, and people. This awareness presentation will teach emergency responders how to recognize and initially manage (size-up) various hazards that they will encounter while arriving at the scene of an agricultural emergency and how to effectively preplan for farm related emergencies in their communities. The second module is designed to teach emergency responders (fire, rescue, EMS) how to properly manage emergencies involving machinery entanglements in various settings. Tractors and machinery are involved in nearly 50% of farm deaths and disabling injuries so rural responders must be proficient in how to manage incidents involving this equipment whether on the farm or off. The principals learned in this module have application to typical machines used on the farm as well as in manufacturing industries so this module is applicable to non-rural emergency responders as well. Participants will learn how to anticipate and control various forms of stored energy and develop rescue strategies from various types of machines. Emphasis will be placed on teamwork to achieve the best possible care for the patient and property that is involved in the incident. This operations/ technical level training will teach emergency providers how to efficiently manage farm tractor & machinery related emergencies following NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents.
