DESCRIPTION:Course Objectives\: This course teaches the Active Attack 
 Integrated Response (formerly known as the Rescue Task Force) concept\
 , which has become the national standard active shooter response doctr
 ine for law enforcement officers\, EMS providers and firefighters to A
 ctive Shooter situations. The class brings trained day-to-day EMS prov
 iders and firefighters and partners them with law enforcement on scene
  to rapidly enter secured areas of an active shooter incident to provi
 de triage\, emergent care and patient extrication to a casualty collec
 tion point. This course is designed to bring EMS and firefighters toge
 ther with law enforcement to collaboratively train together in an inte
 grated fashion. It will include classroom instruction and fast-paced f
 ield training exercises. EMS training will include\: performing a quic
 k initial medical assessment and immediate lifesaving interventions in
  a chaotic and stressful environment\, rapid patient movement\, introd
 uction to ballistic vests\, moving and communicating with law enforcem
 ent in various formations. Law enforcement training will focus on neut
 ralizing the threat and establishment of secured areas and escorting a
 nd protection of EMS personnel. Firefighter training will focus on ass
 isting with the evacuation of victims and the establishment of casualt
 y collection points. Target Audience\: EMS providers\, local and regio
 nal law enforcement\, local firefighters. Day 1 is tactical medicine a
 nd is designed primarily for EMS providers\; however\, many local law 
 enforcement and firefighter students have told us they learned much to
  help them in their jobs from the day 1 curriculum.
